New Year, New Beginnings!

Happy (belated) New Year!

I was supposed to write that days ago but life has been so hectic lately. Big changes are starting in my life including Vala starting infant school, me starting an online study course and of course the beginning of my weight loss journey!

First off, Vala’s first day of infant school went off almost without a hitch. She was supposed to start on a Monday but two hours before it was time to leave she vomited all over the floor and sofa. Ew! So her first day was postponed and she started on a Wednesday instead. She loved it! She was so excited on the walk there and immediately joined in as soon as we arrived. Didn’t even care that I left. Just smiled, waved and blew me a kiss as I was leaving. I came home and had a good cry; can’t believe my baby is growing up so fast! Picked her up a couple of hours later and her teacher told me that she is “very confident” which made me really happy to hear.

Not a lot to report in terms of the online course I’ve started, it’s just an 8 week free online course with Future Learn where I get to develop my creative writing skills. When I was younger I used to alternate between wanting to be a teacher and an author when I grew up and now that I am grown up, I’m trying to decide what to do with my life outside of being a mother. I may never successfully get a book published but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t write one, so I am. I’ve only managed to write a little over a thousand words but it’s a start. Hoping this creative writing course will help me develop my skills further and help motivate me to actually finish my short novel. I’ll keep you updated on the progress of that.

Lastly my weight loss journey has officially begun! In just eleven days I’ve managed to lose 4.2kg! Can hardly believe that number myself but it is actually coming off. My amazing partner; Jordan bought me a Fit Bit Charge 2 as a belated christmas present and it has been a real game changer for me. My exercise has increased, as has my daily water intake, I’m getting more sleep and a better quality of sleep not to mention I’m more aware of what I eat and have been successfully keeping to a maximum of 1200 calories a day.

On top of the Fit Bit I always did a 7-Day Shred with ‘Acti-Labs’. They’re an amazing French company that get some great results from their slimming and dieting products. I didn’t lose a tremendous amount during the shred but hormone changes and the sudden increase of water consumption may have had something to do with it. I still lost 0.7kg in the week and I’m ok with that. A loss is still a loss at the end of the day.

Finally, Jordan and I had our first couples session at the gym yesterday and loved it! We spent two hours there and split the time with an hour dedicated to cardio (treadmill, cross trainer, spinning etc) and an hour to resistance training (weights machines). I’m still sore from it but love the feeling; it lets me know that I did a good job. Once I’m more comfortable at the gym and have settled on a workout regime, I’ll start going by myself whilst Vala is a school but for now I’m happy to go when Jordan and I both have time and can go together.

So yeah, that has been 2017 for me so far. We’re only two weeks in but already some big changes have started and you know what? I couldn’t be happier! :D
